A Visit to Al Ain Zoo!

Yesterday, we visited AL AIN ZOO again. This was my third visit 🙂

Al Ain Zoo (Arabic: ‎حديقة حيوانات العين ) is a 400-hectare (990-acre) zoo located in the foothills of the Jebel Hafeet Mountains in Al Ain, United Arab Emirates. It has a large animal collection of over 4,000 animals (186 species).

The animal group I photographed the most are the GIRAFFES!

Beautiful FLAMINGOS

AFRICAN WILD DOGS have rounded large ears they differ from other canid species in that they have only 4, rather than 5 toes on their front feet.

Al Ain Zoo houses lots of  Arabian antelopes and oryx, eland, gazelle, lechwe and can be found in the tree shaded paddocks which offer excellent breeding conditions.

Birds.

CARACAL’s ears are large and pointed with long erect tufts of hair on the tips.

This is a HIPPOPOTAMUS, but he’s too shy to show his face 🙂  He is recognizable by his barrel-shaped torso, enormous mouth and teeth, nearly hairless body, stubby legs and tremendous size. It is the third largest land mammal by weight, after the White Rhinoceros and Elephant.

PATAS MONKEYS run on all fours (arms and feet), instead of swinging from trees for locomotion. They run fast – up to 55kph

VERVET MONKEYS are the most widely-used primates in medical research. This is because they are small, easily handled, not endangered and easy to breed in captivity.

HOUSE OF REPTILES

WHITE TIGERS exist only in captivity.

The Al Ain Zoo hosts the almost extinct WHITE LION (less than 200 remain in the world)

The trip was fun and educational at the same time!
