HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME!

On this day, I become 3 years old. And before starting this big day of mine, my parents brought me to Malolos Cathedral to thank the Lord for all the blessings that come to us.

Malolos Cathedral, also known as the Basilica Minore dela Nuestra Señora de Inmaculada Concepcion (in Spanish) or Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception (in English), is the eccelesiastical seat of the Diocese of Malolos in the Philippines.

This church played a very important role in Philippine history.  At noon on September 1898, General Emilio Aguinaldo and his men arrived at Malolos. Until 29 March 1898, General Aguinaldo used the Malolos convent as the presidential palace (Palacio Presidential) of the First Philippine Republic Tragically, he had to flee from the Americans and he ordered General Antonio Luna to set the church and convent on fire. This ‘scorched-earth policy’ was intended to make everything in Malolos useless should it fall to American hands.

The Kalayaan Tree (Siar) is located in the patio of the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception in the historic city of Malolos, Bulacan, Philippines. It was planted by Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo during a lull in the Malolos Convention. Aguinaldo is said to have conducted many political discussions here. Under the tree is a monument that symbolizes the meeting of Filipino revolutionaries.(wikipedia)

During my parents’ high school years, they used this tree as a meeting place 🙂

A small prayer room inside the church.

Bakasyon Bits 37: Manaoag Church

Our family visited Manaoag Church in Manaoag, Pangasinan. It was a 4-hour drive, so we had to leave very early in the morning to be able to catch the morning mass.

Manaoag Church is the home of the miraculous Our Lady of Manaoag (formally: Nuestra Señora del Santissimo Rosario de Manaoag, literal translation: Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary of Manaoag)which is a 17th century Roman Catholic wooden statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary located in Manaoag, Pangasinan. Locally known as the patroness of the town, it is one of the most venerated Marian images of Mary in the Philippines.

In July 22, 2011 a special mass was held which launched an affiliation with the shrine with the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major. Contrary to recent publicized press, the shrine has not been elevated to the official title of Minor Basilica, rather a plenary indulgence for its devotees and affiliation with the shrine of Saint Mary Major in Rome. The event, authorized by Pope Benedict XVI, solely recognizes the innumerable miracles and supernatural events that have occurred within the history timeline of the shrine and grants those same indulgences which can only be received from the Papal Basilicas located in Rome. Currently, only the shrine of Manaoag holds this title of papal affiliation in the Philippines (wikipedia).
